Raptalk.net recently had the chance to catch up with Willy Northpole to discuss his upcoming album “Tha Connect”, the upcoming DTP compilation “Strength In Numbers”, and more!

Questions asked by: Lunatic 63

Q: We’re here with Willy Northpole, how you doing man?

I’m feeling great man, a nigga still breathing. I’m healthy, so I’m good.

Q: No doubt. How did you get into rapping and when did you begin to take it seriously?

I started recording in the studio at the age of 13. I’ve always taken it seriously. I got locked up for three years, and when I got out, I just started going hard. I felt like I had something to prove and something to gain.

Q: I see. How does it feel to be the only west coast artist on DTP?

Well actually Arizona is between the south and the west. It’s a southwest state, but we are the west. And as far as being the only artist on DTP representing the west, I feel like it’s a good thing. I’m universal so I feel like I can squeeze in any coast with my style.

Q: Which artists are you currently feeling on the west coast?

I’m not really feeling too many artists right now, but then again I’m focusing on my own shit. I like Snoop Dogg’s consistency. Anybody else I don’t care to much for. We are losing a battle right now but the new frontline soldiers such as myself are ready for this shit.

Q: No doubt. Tell us about your upcoming debut album “Tha Connect.”

Tha Connect is gonna be the best album out. I chose every beat carefully and my content is crazy. My subject matter is creative man. I’m cut from the same cloth as Biggie, same cloth as the Chronic album. I’ve created a masterpiece and it’s gonna be a classic album.

Q: Can’t wait to hear it. How much of the album is completed?

It’s 95% completed. We just have some final mixing and mastering to do, that’s all.

Q: Good stuff. Which artists have you worked with for the album?

So far I’ve juggled with a few artists, not too many though. I did a joint with Ludacris ofcourse. I have a big single with New-Yo, that’ll like be the second single for the album. I have finished songs with a few artists; the key is now picking the right ones. I want Jeezy on a record and maybe Kanye as well.

We just shot the video for the first single “Body Marked Up” so we’re running with that as the first single before we drop the Ne-Yo one. Body Marked up was produced by a kid who was 14 at the time, from Canada. He goes by the name of Wonka, and he is very talented. I fuck with him. Crazy, huh?

Q: Interesting. What is going on with the DTP compilation “Strength In Numbers?” It’s been talked about for a while and has suffered numerous push backs. What has been the reason for that?

I did my damn thing on that album; we did that record when I first got signed. That’s the upper heads calling the shots. I don’t know what’s going on, but business must go on my nigga. I’m on about four songs on that compilation.

Q: Alright. What is your favorite single out right now?

Honestly, I don’t fuck with too much rap but that Timbaland “Apologize” record is still holding weight. I like that band (One Republic) and the way ol’ boy put his spice on it with the lead. Plus I like how he’s telling the broad he ain’t trying to hear that bullshit she be talking.

Q: (Laughs). Do you have any last words for the fans before I let you go?

Yeah man, as for the fans, they are the reason why I do this. I shut down the mall in my city the other day signing shit. That’s the best feeling in the world. Not for my ego, but just knowing that individuals really love my craft and appreciate my work. Love to all.
