Akil of the group "The Jurassic 5" drops his words and knowledge...
Written by Akil This was written long before Obamas speech on race and way before NAS " Hip HOP Is Dead"album.these are my views i hold my self fully responsible.
RACISM
Is there such a thing as discrimination in Hip Hop.hating is to small of a word to describe the disease that is running rampant in the vains of Hip Hop music.its deeper than just hating cause hating mainly applies to jellousy, people mad cause they don’t have what u have be it material record sales money women ect. So for me to say people are hating on Jurassic 5 what would be the reasons. for one we have never went platinum so its not record sales record sales that = money 4 the material shit which we don’t have ,so the women that are mainly attracted to this life style and what comes with it are not on us like that so what reason would i have to say that people are hating on us. Discrimination best describes what I am getting at racism to the fullest extent.Racism but not in its most known form(black and white)but black on black, not from artist to artist thats called beef lol, but from the people who claim to be the hands (INDUSTRY) eyes (MEDIA) and ears (RADIO) of this culture that they say they support so much.Racism is to have a misconception and biased approach to that which you are not familiar with providing you have the power to make your opinion law,in other words, the powers that be dictate and guide what is exceptable and who’s hot and who’s not.To have a pre judged opinion about that what u don’t know and understand is doing a disservice to yourself and the one you are being prejudiced towards. In this case The Jurassic 5. We have been stereo typed, racially profiled and discriminated against cause we don’t fall under the master race format so we get lumped in to these catagorys that have been created(underground, back pack, conscious rap, gangster, mainstream, what ever in order to divide and conquer and promote a superior and inferior situation in Hip Hop. House nigga field nigga Willie Lynch with a hip hop twist mentality in a nut shell creating dis unity by exploiting and highlighting the differences in the genres of Hip Hop, old vs new ,gangster vs conscious, mainstream vs under ground ,and coast vs coast instead of showing the things we all have in common, which is love for the music however you do it.The enemies of Hip Hop see us as one so we should see our selves as one.The phsychological and physical defects of this mentality have created a schitzofrenic identity crisis driven by low self esteem clothed in slogans about keeping it real.History is best qualified to reward all research if you don’t know where u been you don’t know where your going. There has been a systematic approach to erase any reminants of the past further exploiting the misconception of a generational gap when we all know there is nothing new under the sun. Hip hop today is filled with reminants of the past wether people are aware of it is another thing. From the beggining of hip hop we have been talking about money, cars, clothes, partys, guns and dope as far as lyrical content is concerned. When it comes to delivery and rhyme patterns and flows todays Hip Hop is just as simple and basic if not more than the beggining. [and they have the nerve to say are old school cadence and flow is boring and out dated]..Music wise as far as the beat is concerned has many of the elements that laid the foundation for the music people eat off today. Live instruments, replayed samples, instrumentals with rb singing on the hooks ,808 kick drums and snares. The only thing that has changed is the sonic factor due to technology, but the method to the madness is still the same. When it comes to image and street credibility MELLE MEL was the first example of this with the "MESSAGE" he talked about the ghetto in its entirety from the mentality on the streets in the home, prison and in society. The things he rapped about and the way he described them automatically let you know he wasn’t lying so his credebilty was 100% back then and still today with the people that had this in common, which just so happened to be every ghetto in America. KRS 1 boasted about comming from the streets, being homeless , selling weed in the dope spot(TRAP ), and having run i’ns with the police and hoes. From the beggining the image of the female mc was not to act as hard as the guys as some would lead us to believe. Sex appeal with women on the mike and in hip hop is not new at all. The all girl rap group SEQUENCE did not at all remind me of the FURIOUS 5. DIMPLES D,and the REAL ROXXANE was sexy and so was SWEET T and SALT & PEPA , just not as raunchy as a LIL KIM or TRINA, and even with that CHOICE MC from Texas been talking about suckin dick way before them. So with saying all that whats really good with the way J5 approach todays game and music listeners ,who don’t know a dam thing about the old school way of doing this? not the one’s that do know and not ashamed and dimayed by todays ways this don’t apply to you. But to those who don’t have a clue. Question Wouldn’t that make this new for those who don’t know? Something fresh for the ears different from what they are used to hearing , isn’t that the goal and principle to be fresh and different from the rest. Why would i put chicken on your plate and you already got some? Isn’t variety the spice of life?Like I said before Hip Hop today is filled and based on the past and not just musically but life style as well vintage clothing hairstyles and slang. The biggest example of this is Hip Hops glorification of old school thugs and drug dealers, to the point that names are taken as well as life style and past accomplishments have been resurrected from the grave and pennitenturies. Why is Bishop Magic Don Jaun more popular than KOOL HERC? Why is he relevant today with his old school ways and MELLE MEL is out dated? But Hip Hop like the plight and situation of the Afrikan born in America is ignorant and deceived of his/her history and foundational pillars of this art form called hip hop. the aknowledgments and respect due to the founders of this art form go further than an 30 min segment on BET,MTV. AND VH1. But just like slavery the thing is to replace who you are and adopt another form and system by systematically erasing the past in order to control, manipulate and dictate the thinking pattern of the slave leaving one void of past accomplishments that would connect the slave with his or her rich history exposing the lies and stereo types. Hip Hop today from the way it has been promoted and exploited is just like slavery some slaves where able to elevate because they surccomed and submitted to the circumstance as a means to survive"I’M TRYING TO EAT " so special treatment was giving to the so called good slave leading them to believe he or she was different from all the other slaves drawing lines between family and friends. The same is for Hip Hop the eyes ,ears and hands of this industry have giving special priveledges and positions to certain individuals entities and movements under the banner of "keep in it real" and remaining true to Hip Hop by so called breaking bread with them, but not at the table do they sit and eat ,more like on the porch with all the other MONKEYS. I once heard that"all money ain’t good money and in the same breath"don’t bite the hand that feed you" these two statements have created a schitzsophrenic behavior in the minds of the Hip Hop community as well as the communties of Afrikans born in America. This is the product of racism and it’s long term affect wich in turn creates jeously, envy , self hatred, dis unity and lack of respect for one’s history and history makers. "THEY WANNA KNOW MY DISPOSITION ON EXTREME NIGGER ISM I SAY IF THE LORD FOR GIVE’ EM THEN WHO AM I TO DISS’EM" Akil The MC from Jurassic 5
The next BLOG will be a living testimony of this affect.
