Problem out of Compton has been doing very well lately with a nice little internet strategy to build a buzz. On Friday May 2nd, the Remix to I’m Toe up leaked to the internet. It’s a SUPERB song which I’ve included below. It features some real heavy hitters on the West Coast including Felli Fel, Snoop, DJ Quik and Terrace Martin. You can listen to it by clicking below. It’s a real heater. I like how they switched up the beat while keeping the original by Disko involved. CLICK HERE TO LISTEN TO THE I'M TOE UP REMIX Just as the topics on the forums started dying down about the new remix, Problem put out his mixtape “Streets is mine” on some of the major sites. I haven’t really given it a proper listen yet, but it sounds like it’s got some quality material after a first skim. It should do well at introducing Problem to a new audience. Being hosted by Felli Fel and Nik Bean and featuring some quality production, I think it was put out at the perfect time to put it out. Problem was already fresh in peoples mind from the remix, and then his mixtape dropped. One thing I didn’t like is the fact that it didn’t have the Toe Up remix on the tape, but it’s a minor complaint. It’s humorous, well directed and once again it dropped at the perfect time. Check it out below.
So what can artists learn from Problem’s online strategy? Hit em hard, Hit em frequently, and Hit em through multiple outlets. Problem also picked a nice time to drop his new media. It’s a slow period news wise and it gave him some nice room to breathe. Internet strategy is only one part of success, but it’s an integral part. Is there room for improvement? Of course, but Problem has his online strategy down. He created a full week of constant exposure for his name by releasing a single, a mixtape, and a video - other artists should take note.
