Raptalk.net Q&A Session: Mr. Hyde E-mail
Written by Dub MD

Raptalk.net this week caught up with Psychological Records artist Mr. Hyde for an exclusive question and answer session, to speak on his thoughts on Hip Hop, His brand new album "Chronicles Of The Beastman" in stores July 22nd and how he hooked up with Necro and Psychological Records. Make sure you check out the new video for his new single off his up coming album entitled "Killer Collage" at the end of the interview.

Dub MD: Mr. Hyde, What's good?

Mr. Hyde: Blow jobs, stove top stuffing and a mint condition Micky Mantle rookie card!

Dub MD: For those who don't know, could you just give a short review of what you've experienced in your rap career up until now?

Mr. Hyde: Well, coming up, I've rocked many emcee battles and open mic competitions. I've been almost all over the globe on tour, rhymed live on some heavily respected hip-hop radio shows. I put out a classic solo album in 2004 called "Barn Of The Naked Dead", along with a group album called "Circle Of Tyrants".

Dub MD: Coming from Queens, what do you think of the New York music scene right now?

Mr. Hyde: It reeks of shit. I have nothing in common with it!

Dub MD: What do you think of the commercialisation of Hip Hop right now, do you think its showing respect to its pioneers?

Mr. Hyde: I feel hip-hop is too watered down, unoriginal and shallow in it's content. the videos are all bright, glittery and flashy, Hip Hop started in the street. What happened to all the hard-core, gritty street element? Artists now are too worried about making the next big hit for "The Club."

There isn't much music with any intelligence and depth. No replay value. I'm out to change that. I feel like you can listen to my music and it moves you. It stays with you. You can play it over and over and still pick up content you didn't catch the first couple of listens.

Dub MD: Do you have a new album in the works? what's it called? and what can heads out there expect from it?

Mr. Hyde: My new solo album, "Chronicles Of The Beastman" drops July 22nd, 2008. People can expect another classic record filled with vicious content, crazy flows, complex, multi-syllabic wordplay, rugged beats and a free bonus DVD!

Dub MD: With this project, what artists & producers are you connecting with this time round?

Mr. Hyde: A lot of new faces. The most evident is producer Sean Strange. Strange is a very ill upcoming artist / producer who I connected with on this project. He produced the beats for about 3 quarters of my album. Strange also has a solo album dropping on Psycho Logical this year. Of course I got Necro on production.

As far as rap cameos, I got Necro, Ill Bill, Q-unique, Slaine of La Coka Nostra, Exlib, and No Good People. I also have DJ Eclipse doing scratches on my first video / single "Killer Collage."

Dub MD: Where do you get the inspiration to write the type of material you do?

Mr. Hyde: Growing up, I was influenced heavily by extremely bloody, low budget horror flicks and heavy metal. I was exposed to a lot of violence on the screen and in life on the street so it was natural that the content in my first rhymes were very violent and brutal.

Dub MD: How do you feel you've changed as an lyricist from your debut "Barn Of The Naked Dead" up to now with "Chronicles Of The Beastman"?

Mr. Hyde: I'm very competitive. Even with myself. I always feel the need to outdo my last verse or last piece of work. I experimented a lot on this new record. I flipped a lot of new styles, rhyme patterns, switched my flow up a lot. people will be impressed. Plus I got a lot of new and different sounding production.

Dub MD: Your part of Necro's label "Psychological Records", How did that situation come about for you?

Mr. Hyde: I met Necro in 1997 at a show. We had a lot in common and we clicked. I was friends with him before he started the label. So of course i was with him 100% while he was starting it up. I've guest appeared on every major Psycho Logical release up to this date, and at this point, the label is more like a family to me. That's how we roll.

Dub MD: What do you think is your most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other artist out there?

Mr. Hyde: My most defining attribute is my ability to pump people up with my music. Whether they're listening to my cd, or are at one of my live shows, my fans get so amped up and get to release their aggression. I love to see all the mosh pits and energy from my fans. It lets me know my music affects them.

Dub MD: If you could describe yourself as a emcee in 4 words, What would they be?

Mr. Hyde: Powerful, Original, Energetic & Vicious.

Dub MD: For your fans who haven't seen you perform yet, are you planning on going on tour anytime soon?

Mr. Hyde: For sure. After my album drops, I will be concentrating on promoting and booking lots of shows, Bouncers stay alert, The "Spill Your Blood" pit is coming soon to a club near you!

Dub MD: What is on tap for Mr. Hyde for the rest of 2008 and beyond?

Mr. Hyde: I will make features on most of the upcoming PLR artist's albums in 2008 along with a lot of touring and promoting. I want to get this album as much exposure possible. I'm also getting together with Necro for another group project called Greusome Twosome for 2009.

Dub MD: Do you have anything to say to the fans? anything you wanna get off your chest? any shout outs?

Mr. Hyde: Yeah. To all my die hard cult following, good looks on all the support! Keep repping the rugged shit! There's more gore on the way!
