Interview by Justin "Lunatic 63" Melo
Raptalk recently had the pleasure of hooking up with the group that is known as the Fly Society! Read up on this interview and learn all about what the group has to offer!
Q: We're here with Fly Society, how are y'all doing? Great! We just got back from the UK and we’re gearing up for the summer.
Great! It was crazy just seeing how much they love Fly Society out there, and how the movement is being felt like that! It was amazing to see how much of a huge following the Skate World has, and the impact skating and the music have on the fans.
Q: I understand that. Let's get right into it if we can; the group recently dropped a street album - what was the motivation behind releasing this street album before the actual album? HIT dropped “The Born Supremacy” and Spitta dropped “Fear and Loathing in New Orleans”. We’re just keeping the streets hot. A lot of people have been asking for music from Fly Society so that's the reason we dropped street albums, to give them a taste of what the album will sound like, and what the whole vibe of the Fly Society Movement is all about. We don't have a name for it yet, but it’s going to be fly (laughs). It’s definitely going to be a classic! Look for it in the first quarter 2009.
We just dropped a street single called “Mean Wit It” produced by the Smash Brothers that's shaking up the world, so we’re running with that.
The first video we shot was for “Fresh”. We did that for the internet fans, but this new single/video will be mainstream, more BET/MTV based. Wow...its crazy man! It gives you that feeling like you’re on top of the world. It’s not just one sided, it has everything on there for everyone. We couldn’t have done it any better.
We really can't let that out the bag yet, but I can tell u this...HEAVY HITTERS!
Q: What is the current label situation for the group? We are speaking with a couple of labels as we speak, trying to get the best deal, but there’s nothing solid as of yet.
The album focuses on “self-motivation”, believing in yourself, being the best at what u do, no matter what people might say; Just staying on top of your game, turning a negative situation into something that is positive. We just really want people to understand that Fly Society is more then just a “rap group”, Fly Society is a lifestyle. You either “fly with us or lay beneath us”. Yeah, Currensy’s new mixtape “Super Tecmo Bowl”, HIT’s “A Beautiful Mind”, TK “Death Wish 3" and pick up the Fly Society Deck, Fly Society Clothing is also coming next spring.
(Laughs) It’s funny because we all write alike. We might write or we might come off the top of the head, and just go off the vibe really. It just depends on the vibe.
The beat has to be fly! It has to be something we’ve never heard before. It has to talk to us. Some of our tracks are off the wall, but they fit what we are trying to do you feel me?
Love it! Currensy is the king of the mixtapes right now with a crazy amount of downloads and HIT is doing amazing with the street albums! It works for keeping your buzz out there as long as you can be consistent in your music, then the mixtape game will be a good for you. Look out for “Super Tecmo Bowl” and “A Beautiful Mind”.
Wow...for a minute it was killing record sales. It was doing some good for the indie artists though, as far as helping them to get their names out there. There’s no stopping it... we just have to grind hard and make classic records that people will want to support and get behind and buy.
Much love...stay fly! Thank you Raptalk for having us. We have shout outs to Fly Society East, West & South, High House Productions, Soul Hood Ent. & look out for Mecca Dawn, and RAOO! Let’s get it! CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD "SWAGGA"
