This week we had the opportunity to have a quick Q & A with Brooklyn Academy group member and solo artist is in own right, Block McCloud. Along with Mr. Metaphor and Pumpkinhead they formed the super group Brooklyn Academy and are on the verge of releasing their debut album "Bored Of Education". Block sits down to chat about the new Brooklyn Academy album, his thought on Hip Hop music and all the projects he's featured on as a solo artist. Make sure you check out the new Brooklyn Academy track "The Roll Call" featuring Wordsworth at the end of the interview.

Dub MD: Block McCloud, What's good?

Block McCloud: What it is fam? We Are chillin like Bob Dylan, like him, writing poetry that will impact and impress, classic lyrics that will stand the "test" of time, hence the name Brooklyn Academy.

Dub MD: For those who don't know, could you just give a short review of what you've experienced in your rap career up until now?

Block McCloud: We have held ourselves down, steady grinding, without label support, until Gold Dust saw the potential, saw the vision, until now we were the most slept on crew in the game, truly honoring original hip hop and what preserving the flavor in ya ear, nah mean?

Dub MD: Coming From Brooklyn, what do you think of the New York music scene right now?

Block McCloud: Block McCloud, speaking for myself, I have to say, that things have been swaying toward the old school, people are hungry for change and a renaissance movement of sorts where originality and versatility are craved, people are looking at us and the Immortal Techniques and La Coka Nostras, heads who are not afraid to be themselves and flaunt real talent. Times are changing and we are the innovators of a new era. Brooklyn Academy, taking em back to school...

Dub MD: What do you think of the commercialisation of Hip Hop right now, do you think its showing respect to its pioneers?

Block McCloud: I believe that for the last 10 years or so we have been exploited like blackspoitation in the seventies, utilized to keep our people in a state of ignorant bliss, promoting ignorance, materialism, and the like while the government pushes their patriot acts and violates our rights, we are unfortunately too drunk and busy chasing fat asses to see what is being imposed on us.

Hip hop has always been a beautiful expression of our hard times , i.e.: "the message", "White lines", "Black Cop", and unfortunately in this day and age, we are not seeing how important we as a culture can positively influence our people and society as a whole.

Dub MD: Do you have a new album in the works? what's it called? and what can heads out there expect from it?

Block McCloud: Yessir, The album is called "Bored of Education" and we also have a mixtape in the works called "Summer School" mad heads on the projects including Ill Bill, Killah Priest, Jean Grae, Vinnie Paz, and more, heads can expect what hip hops been missing, pure lyricism, banging ass beats and fun, fun, fun on track!

Dub MD: With this project, what artists & producers are you connecting with this time round?

Block McCloud: Black Milk, Illmind, Al Tarba, Ill Bill, Killah Priest, Sha Stimuli, Vinnie Paz, Wordsworth and more, its crazy, we gets love in this industry and honestly, this is just the beginning.

Dub MD: You're a solo artist in your own right, Can you tell us about the solo projects you have in the works?

Block McCloud: I'm working on Brooklyn Academy whole heartedly but I'm also known as Captain Hook, a master of choruses, you can find me on Jean Graes "This Week", Jedi Minds "Outlive the War", Sean Prices "Mess you Made," Killah Priest new album, I did two choruses on "Hallelujah", and another joint that I don't know the title to. (laughs) Poison Pens "Grip Up", The new Snowgoons album, Sicknature album, Jedi Minds and Army of the Pharaohs new album I have two choruses on that, Demunz, out of Canada, DJ Concept mixtapes, Big Mike Mixtapes, My own Solo Album "Perversion In D Minor", and a whole lot more!

Dub MD: Can you tell us a little about how you came up with the name "Brooklyn Academy" and how you all came to form the group back in the day?

Block McCloud: As the founder, I came up with the name on a bus on our way to a studio, Pumpkinhead and I, I thought the whole school theme would be dope on a marketing tip and the fact that we educated people lyrically, would really blow up.

I sought out Pump and Met, along with my dude Will Tell and Icon and things came together rather quickly, we made a name for ourselves spitting gritty intellectual flows with style and alliteration, and started a trend that many new groups would soon follow.

Dub MD: What do you think is your most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other group out there?

Block McCloud: I believe its our versatility, our ability to spit, sing, produce, rhyme in different languages, styles, genres, with ease and a refreshing and innovative approach, we are different and proud of it. Even within the group each one of us does our thing our own way but find a way to mesh it seamlessly. We are fresh!

Dub MD: If you could describe yourself as a collective in 4 words, What would they be?

Block McCloud: Class Is In Session!

Dub MD: For your fans who haven't seen you perform yet, are you planning on going on tour anytime soon?

Block McCloud: Yes, we have shows lined up in Baltimore, Germany, and Australia, and a slew of others as well as a tour in August / September, its all still in the works but you will be seeing us everywhere!

Dub MD: What is on tap for Brooklyn Academy for the rest of 2008 and beyond?

Block McCloud: We are releasing an album, a mixtape, videos, singles, leaks, clothes, etc. man we are going to be everywhere in a hot second.

Dub MD: Do you have anything to say to the fans? anything you wanna get off your chest? any shout outs?

Block McCloud: I just want to say Peace to all our fans for there constant support, we have a lot of stuff in store for ya'll, want to shout out Jean Grae, Thirstin Howl, Will Tell, I-see-on and all our Brooklyn Academy affiliates, can't forget my wifey Fresh Jones for singing on our project and for giving me my beautiful baby girl Dahlia Rose. To my son Lego and my daughter Isabella, love ya'll eternally, One Love.
