For this weeks question and answer session we got the opportunity to catch up with Chicago emcee Longshot, who has just released his brand new album called "Addicted" in stores right now. He sits down with us to talk about his past experiences, his new album, and his plans for the future. Make sure you check out the new track entitled "N.I.G.G.E.R." at the end of the interview.

Dub MD: Longshot, What's good?

Longshot: What up, what up, I'm gravy jus grindin on the album and new material!

Dub MD: For those who don't know, could you just give a short review of what you've experienced in your rap career up until now?

Longshot: Well i dropped with DJ Anomaly, my first 12", 'Happiness Is Hard 2 Find', in 2002, my first album 'Open Mouths Fed' came out in 2003 and I've dropped three full length projects after that ('Sacrifice' 2004 / Molemen records), ('Civil War Part 2' 2005 / EV records) and a collaboration with producer Copperpot (CopperShot 'Issues' 2006 / EV). I've toured the country and Canada as a solo act and as a supporting act for Psalm One, Diverse and Vakill and I'm from Chicago, Go-Ill!

Dub MD: Coming from Chicago, what do you think of the Chi-Town hip hop scene right now?

Longshot: I'm very proud to be from Chicago, we always been Ill, the talent here is so deep and diverse it's been due the attention, but we all are doing our thing and that's really dope, we still need to come together as one though, the day will come. Shouts to everybody doing they thang from the go, I got love for all.

Dub MD: What do you think of the commercialisation of Hip Hop right now, do you think its showing respect to its pioneers?

Longshot: Hip Hop is in a great place right now, it's only getting bigger and still inspires millions of people across the globe so I don't see it as being anything but all good, keep supporting good music.

Dub MD: Do you have a new album / mixtape in the works? what's it called? and what can heads out there expect from it?

Longshot: My new album is called 'Addicted' is in stores and available for download right now, you can expect good music, it's called 'Addicted' because i try and make music that people can on some level relate to. I feel like we all have addictions (drugs, sex, gossip, lies and money) and our addictions can lead to good things and bad things.

I just broke it down with songs like 'N.I.G.G.E.R.' which stands for nothing's impossible gradually getting' equality right and 'Ciearra's Song' which talks about a mother whose only wish was to have a daughter after having five boys in a row, she had Ciearra but because of her addiction to crack, lost all her kids, never raised her daughter who kills herself trying to give herself an abortion, it's a dope album!

Dub MD: With this project, what artists & producers are you connecting with this time round?

Longshot: Producers who contributed to 'Addicted' are PNS and Memo of the Molemen, K-Kruz, Magnif of Lawless Elements, Oh No, Copperpot, Chicago great Profound, and my guy Panthrow. Guest rappers are few but sick, Rhymesayer's first lady Psalm One, One Be Lo, Diverse, Eternia, and Ang13.

Dub MD: How do you feel you've changed as an emcee from your releases "Open Mouths Fed" & "Sacrifice" up until now in 2008?

Longshot: I think i've grown as a song producer, it's not jus about writing lyrics, you gotta do that and they gotta be dope and unique and creative but you gotta also arrange and structure your joint creatively so that it stands out from your average everyday song.

Dub MD: What's your label situation like just now?

Longshot: I'm not with any label right now!

Dub MD: Where do you get the inspiration to write the type of material you do? and what was the writing process like on your albums?

Longshot: My inspiration comes from my life and my experiences, things i do, things i've done, i wanna inspire people to follow they're dreams because i feel so blessed to be able to do what i love everyday, so that's inspiration for me, to inspire another.

My writing process is free: i write wen i feel it, i don't force anything unless i have to write on the spot for someone else, i love writing and words so i write all types of things, journal, poetry, songs whatever.

Dub MD: Being a creative and original emcee, why do you think it is that emcees with skills on the mic, never make a real mark on soundscan?

Longshot: I think it depends on who you like because there are a lot of dope cats that sell well, the industry is all about money when it's all said and done.

Dub MD: You've got a lot of support from hip hop fans online, How important do you feel the internet is to an underground hip hop these days?

Longshot: The internet is always gonna be a huge marketing tool for all artists, indy and major label, it's a great way to get your message out to the masses, that's what's most important for me, getting my message out there thru my shows and albums and it's a simple message: you can be what you wanna be if you work hard for it, simple right?

Dub MD: What do you think is your most defining and unique characteristic that sets you apart from every other emcee out there?

Longshot: I would say that my live show is something that definitely separates me from other  artists, not everyone is able to take what they do in the lab to the stage, so i take a lot of pride in performing live. I've been on Warped Tour with a live band, i've rock with just a dat player behind and killed, i love to perform!

Dub MD: If you could describe yourself as an emcee in 4 words, What would they be?

Longshot: One Of The Best!

Dub MD: For your fans who haven't seen you perform yet, are you planning on going on tour anytime soon?

Longshot: I will be hitting the road hopefully in the spring on the my guys American Beauty Tour, acts to be announced.

Dub MD: What is on tap for MC Longshot for the rest of 2008 and beyond?

Longshot: As for the rest of 2008, i'm recording my first live album on November 26th at the Morseland here in Chicago so if you're in town then fall through it's bout to go down. That project will also have a DVD along wit it, i'm working on various projects, i'm sure you'll see me on some type of tour soon so jus smoke something wit ya guy!

Dub MD: Do you have anything to say to the fans? anything you wanna get off your chest? any shout outs?

Longshot: Man thanks to Raptalk, and to all who support, stay up and stay tuned, shot!
