We’re here with Jay Rock, how you doing man? I’m good man, you know? The CD about to drop and it’s going to do really good. Speaking on the album, when’s it dropping? We are going to be dropping it mid July; summer time. The title is “Follow Me Home” and it should definitely be out in the summer. I just finished the new single “All My Life” featuring Lil Wayne and Will.I.Am, produced by Cool N Dre - it is killing the streets and it’s gonna be real big. So does that mean you’ve deciding on rolling with the Will.I.Am version instead of the K.Dot one? Yeah, we are running with the Will.I.Am one; but we are going to use the K.Dot as well. A lot of people like that one (K. Dot version) on the streets. So how do you plan on using the K. Dot version as well? We are going to use it as a remix. Does that man it’ll be on the album as well? Most likely, yeah. Ok, that’s what’s up. When we can expect to see the video for that joint? We just found the director and producer for it; you know what I’m saying? We are planning on shooting it over the next few weeks so it should be out around April or May. Is the video going to be a street video or something for the major networks such as BET and MTV? It’ll be for the major networks such as BET and MTV. What made you decide to roll with a single like “All My Life” over your typical Hip Hop single now in days like a club joint? Basically I just want people to know who I am and where I come from. “All My Life” represents me from the streets to making something out of nothing and from the bottom to the top. That is how I wanted to come out; something that represents for me and where I’m from. Speaking of where you come from, who were your musical influences growing up in Watts? Pretty much just every west coast legend. Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Biggie, Scarface, Ice Cube and so on. I feel that. So which type of producers do you have on the album? I got an in-house dude by the name of Soundwave; Also a young cat from Inglewood by the name of Finest. DJ Quik is on a few tracks; another cat by the name of Neff-U. I have JR Rotem on the album; he has done some stuff for Rick Ross. Cool N Dre is ofcourse on the project and I got a lot of other up and coming producers on there as well. Are there any features on the album besides Lil Wayne and Will.I.Am? Oh yeah; I got Trey Songz, The Game; shouts out goes to Game. Lil Wayne is on there and so is my boy K. Dot straight outta Compton; the rest is me. Dope lineup right there. Has a 2nd single been picked out as of right now? Oh yeah, as a matter of fact; I didn’t wanna give that up but I got Ne-Yo on the record. It looks like that’ll be the next single; me and Ne-Yo, that’s gonna be crazy. Damn, can’t wait for that one; And when can we expect to hear that one? Around right after everything is done with the “All My Life” single. Regarding the “No Sleep Til NYC” mixtape alongside K.Dot, whose idea was it to rap over all those classic east coast beats? It was both mine and K. Dot’s idea. We were basically in the studio and said we need to go hard on some old fashion east coast beats to gain some respect from the New York rappers. We all know that Hip Hop started in the Bronx so we had to pay respect for everyone that has paved the way for rap. We had to show them that west coast cats can go hard; we got flows too. How do you feel about The Game and Spider Loc beefing? The Game is my dude and Spider (Loc) is my people’s you know? I think its bad for the west coast; hopefully they can come together and end it all and make some music together. They are both grown men so they have to do with grown men do. Since you are cool on both sides, would you ever try and put an end to it? Like I said they are both grown men so there isn’t much I can say or do. When can we expect to hear that “Lift Me Up” remix? The “Lift Me Up” remix is going to be on the next mixtape that’s dropping soon; I just finished it. I am waiting to get some verse’s for the remix from Omar Cruz and Bishop Lamont; those are the last two I am trying to get on it; Its gonna be crazy. Who is on the remix as of right now? I got G. Malone, Roccett, Bad Lucc, Damani, Ya Boy, Topic, Techniec, K. Dot, Ab-Soul, Spider Loc, The Game; it’s gonna be real big. Damn that is quite the line-up right there. How did you get on the “Whatz Next” track off of the “Pac’s Life” album? Basically by signing with Warner Bros. Tom Whalley had a situation going where he was the person that was looking for some new talent and he wanted to see how they would sound rapping with Pac; So I came in and I was lucky enough to be one of the rapper’s chosen to spit a 16 bar verse for them to see how it sounded and they loved it. That’s a nice story right there. Who are you currently feeling on the west coast? G. Malone, my boy is doing it big with that “Certified” record; shouts out to Glasses. My homie Ya Boy, Mistah F.A.B., my boy Eastwood; I’m feeling a lot of cats especially my boy Topic. I’m feeling my boy bad Lucc as well. There are too many to name because I want to say everybody because we are all doing it big out here. Are you planning on going on tour anytime soon? Any European dates? As a matter of fact I am going overseas to Australia over the next month or two; I am supposed to go out there for a few shows. That’s what’s up. Do you have any last words for the fans before I let you go? Tell everybody to hit me up on my myspace page www.myspace.com/jayrock; fans talk and I talk back. Check out my new music and if a DJ needs something tell them to hit me up; Holla back. Comments (6)
